Not long from the recognition process, the cinema and then quickly spread to all corners of the world, spare time city people at that time. Entertainment icons of modernity is then arrived at one town that we know has a myriad of creativity, Bandung, 100 years ago, around the year 1907.

We had two first cinema stood at the Alun-alun Bandung in building semi-permanent tent big enough. Cinemas is 'De Crown Bioscoop' belonging to a named Helant and the 'Oranje Electro Bioscoop' Michel's.

Performing premiere cinemas took place at about the same time. De Crown Bioscoop are shown first. Electro Oranje Bioscoop followed exactly a week later with its inaugural show on Saturday night, December 1, 1907.

The tents are decorated in such a way cinema with decorative flags and banners. On one side of the inside of the tent emblazoned on a huge screen where images are projected. Other sides plastered with posters of superior film to be screened. Vloer coated tent floors and similar backing mat. While the show means the movie is still spelled out simply, this movie marquee appears quite horrendous for the size of a century ago.

At that time the film would still be dumb. Therefore, the owner Michel cinema provides a large-electric organ as accompaniment instrument mute images are displayed. The show starts at seven-night movie. However, some previous time, the sound of organ music has been heard Oranje Electro Bioscoop enliven the atmosphere of the square. Music from the organ are immediately attracted attention of the public to come to Orange Electro Bioscoop.

Space shows in theaters that era is divided into several classes with varying ticket prices. First class tickets are sold more expensive of course, destined for a European or perhaps among the natives of the feudal, class II, to the East among foreigners and natives of the middle class, and class III or IV for lower middle class. Another option for watching movies with far cheaper rates are on the 'feesterrein' (people's amusement park).

  1. The "Cinema Roxy in Jln.Belakang Market" was actually Capitol Theater, then change to Kencana Theater. It was located in Raya Barat Street (now Jendral Sudirman Street). The building has been long gone before the change of the century. To the left of the building there was another Theater, Texas Theater.
This location is across Perdana Wisata Hotel.
